Vitrum is a family of patented design products designed to control every function in the home, combining simplicity of use and attractive styling.
With Vitrum, light switches, thermostats, curtain and blind controls – and all the other electrical controllers in the home – become eye-catching designer items that can be customized in an infinity of colours and textures
Vitrum consists of two elements: a glass masking plate (an eye-catching designer item that can be customized) and an electronic sub-assembly (Vitrum’s hi-tech wireless heart).
First the electronic section is secured to the wall, then the glass décor plate is snap-fitted onto the electronic section.
Thanks to this two-section structure, the user can change the appearance of Vitrum at any time after installing the system. The appearance of the control units can thus be modified simply by purchasing new finishing panels to suit the new home décor
The highly flexible production technology used for Vitrum makes it possible to offer the product in all the colours in the RAL colour chart. This is why Think Simple says the user is “100% free to choose”.
The product is available in three price ranges:
-
Economical range: Standard colours
Choose from 3 standard colours (white Vitrum, black Vitrum, silver Vitrum)
-
Medium range: Vitrum colour selection 2010/2011
Choose from 12 colours selected from the RAL chart by Think Simple (see website)
-
Top of the range: 100% freedom of choice
Choose from any of the colours in the entire RAL chart
No. Thanks to the modular design of Vitrum, you will only need to buy front décor panels in the desired colour and compatible with the electronic sections that you have already purchased and installed.
No, it is not. The wall-mounting system is simple and quick: the electronic section is secured to the wall-mounting box – either the “503” or “1-Gang British Standard” version – using two screws which are supplied with the unit.
The glass finishing plate is then snap-fitted onto the electronic section, and adapts to any unevenness of the wall without affecting the operation of the touch controls.
Vitrum is compatible with the existing wiring, requires no special supplementary components or additional wiring, and can be installed by any qualified electrician.
Vitrum wireless can function using the live wire only (*). This means that old light switches can easily be replaced with switches or dimmers from the Vitrum range.
*With bulbs of 40W or more.
This depends.
In the case of a pre-existing system. you will need to use the wall-mounting boxes that have already been installed.
For new systems or houses under construction, this limitation does not apply, and the shape of the boxes can be selected according to personal taste.
The following products can currently be ordered online:
- Rectangular: Lighting control with 1, 2 or 3 switches and Shutters or Curtain control
- Square: Lighting control with 1, 2 or 4 switches and Shutters or Curtain control
These products are available with integrated wireless technology or in the standard version (“classic” series).
The advantages of wireless technology with respect to the ‘classic’ version are:
- ECO WIRING: when installed in houses during the construction phase, the wireless version requires less wiring, resulting in considerable savings in copper and the time required for laying the cables.
- PLUG & PLAY: Thanks to its integrated wireless technology, Vitrum can be installed in pre-existing 503 or one-gang British Standard boxes without having to add a neutral wire (if this is not already present). In fact, Vitrum wireless can function using the live wire only (*). This means that old light switches can easily be replaced with switches or dimmers from the Vitrum range.
- By adding the HOME MASTER Router, each Vitrum module can communicate with the Home Master supervision application for iPad, so that the iPad becomes an extra-powerful remote handset when used in the home and a powerful tool for supervision when we are out and about.
*With bulbs of 40W or more.
All Vitrum Classic modules can be configured to operate either as switches or as hold-down buttons. The electrical circuit must be built in such a way as to allow Vitrum to pilot bistable relays in order to avoid the expense and complications of installing wire-based bus systems.
The various Vitrum elements communicate between themselves wirelessly (there is no need for an ‘internal bus’ to link them). The HOME MASTER remote handset performs two functions:
-
Configuration: When installing the Vitrum system, in just a few seconds you can create all the switch-on configurations for all the lights by defining the number of lights to be controlled by each glass touch-switch. In traditional systems, this would have necessitated the use of hard-wired mains wiring. Using Vitrum, the procedure is totally flexible, and the end-user can opt for the preferred switch-on configuration independently of the electrical connections laid out by the installing electrician. Configuration of the switch-on logic does not require the interventionof a specialist electrician.
- Operation: When installation is complete, the remote handset can be used to select from up to four lighting scenarios, switch any four groups of lights on and off, dim the scenarios and lights, and use the “master off” function to switch all the lights off.
No, it is not necessary to purchase the Home Master remote handset. In this case, however, configuration of the Vitrum modules with wireless technology must be carried out by an authorized installer who is in possession of a Home Master remote handset.
Remember that if you do not have the handset, you will be missing a whole series of functions.
After installation, in fact, the Home Master remote handset can be used to select from 4 lighting scenarios, switch any four lights on and off, dim the scenarios and lights, and use the “master off” function to switch all the lights off.
And all this without wiring and without configuration software.
The Home Master remote handset cannot be replaced by any other commercially available handsets.
All Vitrum Dimmer can manage loads using both Trailing edge and Leading edge.
During the development process of Vitrum Dimmer, some patterns of LED lights or spotlights have been successfully tested (Spot LED and Led’in 2 by Philips, DuLux El by Osram). Nevertheless, as led lights technology is in fast evolution, we cannot grant now that all the existing products or future ones will have the same behavior of the ones we successfully tested.
Not at all. Quite the opposite: a Router for internet access through DHCP and integrated WIFI access Point (or external Access Point connected to it) is a must for the proper working of Home Master Application on the iPad. The Home Master router must be connected either directly to the internet router (Ethernet jack – cat 5) or indirectly on free Ethernet jack on Net Switch.
Once you made the connection, Home Master application running on your iPad will automatically find the Router Home Master and, through a very simple Plug & Play procedure, will find all the existing Vitrum nodes or other Z-wave product in the area (all products must be certified by Zwave alliance and validated by Think Simple).
Think Simple is developing a complete range of Thermostat for heating and air-conditioning control, having the same exclusive Vitrum design on glass material as for intelligent switches.
The new Vitrum Temperature Control catalogue will be presented by Autumn 2011.
So far the Home Master Application for iPad controls and supervises only products for light and roll-down shutters control.
It can also control other products of this family (switches, dimmers, roll-down shutters) that are manufactured by other companies but they all must be zwave certificated by zwave alliance and validated by think simple.
A free upgrade on App Store will be soon available and it will allow the management of temperature, consumer goods accounting, entry phone and safety, both with new Vitrum products (still developing) and with other companies products certified Z-WAVE and validated by Think Simple.
